The project report, Exploring the concerns of LGBTQ2+ Seniors living on the Sunshine Coast, explores the concerns of seniors who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or 2-spirit, and living on the Sunshine Coast.
Introduction
On the whole, like many seniors in the larger population, their concerns were most profound in the areas of:
- Secure housing
- Financial security as they age
- Health care
On the whole, participants felt that the Sunshine Coast was a safe place to live with a strong sense of community. However, LGBTQ2+ seniors stated that they do face the added burden of trying to find secure stable housing free from discrimination. and access to health care services that accept them for who they are, without constantly having to come out and correct assumptions of heterosexuality by each provider. The 18-page report provides an overview in the areas of housing, safety, health care, financial security and belonging.
