Community Spirit in Action: Volunteers Needed for Creek Daze
Hayley Toth | Sunshine Coast Resource Centre
Every summer, Creek Daze brings the heart of Roberts Creek to life — music in the air, colourful vendors lining the streets, kids dancing in the gumboot parade, and neighbours reconnecting under the cedar trees. But behind the scenes of this beloved tradition is something just as powerful: volunteers.
Now in its 47th year, Creek Daze is a celebration of the eclectic, artistic, and inclusive spirit that defines the community. The event is organized by the xwesám/Roberts Creek Community Association (xRCCA) and draws over 1,200 attendees each year — but it simply couldn’t happen without the help of dedicated volunteers.
From setting up tents and guiding traffic to running info booths or tidying up at the end of the day, every volunteer makes a difference. Whether you’re outgoing or more reserved, there’s a place for everyone.
“I need a job or I won’t go…I’m a natural born introvert through and through. Since I’ve been volunteering at events, I can’t get over the richness it has added to my life. The sense of community and contributing to something that means something is nice for my naturally depressive spirit. Honestly, I think of it as an anti-capitalist, counter-culture, punk-ass thing to do… I like putting energy into things I believe in—it helps me get through the day. Come join in and we can hang out.”
— Creek Daze Volunteer
Volunteering isn’t just about lending a hand — it’s about belonging. Whether you’re new to the Creek or the Coast or a lifelong local, giving a few hours of your time is a chance to connect, support local culture, and be part of something joyful and meaningful.
Creek Daze will be happening on Sunday, August 10th. xRCCA is currently looking for about 40 volunteers to help make this year’s event a success. If you’re ready to be part of something special, sign up today:
