What a year it’s been for the Sunshine Coast Resource Centre! As we wrap up 2024, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible milestones we’ve reached together as a community. This year has been all about collaboration, innovation, and steadfast dedication to meeting the ever-changing needs of the Sunshine Coast. Whether it’s tackling housing insecurity, supporting seniors, or creating pathways out of poverty, we’ve made big strides toward a brighter future for everyone.

Making an Impact, One Person at a Time

Our Community Hub has been buzzing this year, serving over 150 clients every month with everything from navigating government benefits to securing housing. Our Legal Support Program stepped up during tough times, advocating for over 470 individuals, particularly those facing eviction or financial instability.

We also expanded our outreach through exciting initiatives like the rebranded “Just Ask” column and the Seniors Community Connector program. These efforts helped us reach underserved groups, especially seniors and those in remote areas, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Poverty Reduction: Turning Conversations into Action

This year’s Poverty Reduction Campaign, “Be the Change,” was a major highlight. Through public lectures, stakeholder meetings, and engaging content on social media, we’ve kept the spotlight on housing, transportation, and climate issues. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re thrilled to announce that plans are underway to launch a permanent program in 2025. Together, we’re building the foundation for lasting solutions to poverty on the Sunshine Coast.

Empowering Through Technology and Volunteerism

The Computer Kindness Corner made a triumphant return in March, distributing 37 devices to those in need and recycling 29 more. Meanwhile, Volunteer Sunshine Coast connected over 50 volunteers with meaningful roles, streamlining the process and boosting the spirit of community support.

Supporting Our Seniors

Seniors remain at the heart of many of our initiatives. From transportation expos to monthly caregiver meetings, we’ve worked tirelessly to bridge gaps in services for older adults. Our Seniors Community Connector program has been especially impactful in connecting seniors with medical and non-medical resources. It’s all part of our commitment to improving health and well-being through personalized community support.

Looking to the Future

2024 has shown us what’s possible when dedicated staff, volunteers, and community members come together with a shared purpose. Thank you for being part of our journey. Let’s keep building a Sunshine Coast where everyone has the resources to thrive. As we step into 2025, our focus is clear: collaboration and innovation. We can’t wait!
