Building Capacity on the Sunshine Coast is a collaborative initiative, fostering a more informed and supportive dementia-friendly community. Its partners are the Sunshine Coast Resource Centre, the Gibsons Seniors Society, and the University of British Columbia (UBC).  In 2024, they organized Managing Memory as You Age, a four-part workshop series that explored essential topics such as:

  • promoting brain health

  • providing compassionate care for those experiencing cognitive changes

  • embracing life with dementia.

  • common myths and misconceptions about dementia..

By creating opportunities for education and dialogue, the Building Capacity Project seeks to build a more inclusive environment where individuals with dementia and their caregivers feel empowered, understood, and supported.
