Building Capacity on the Sunshine Coast is a collaborative initiative, fostering a more informed and supportive dementia-friendly community. Its partners are the Sunshine Coast Resource Centre, the Gibsons Seniors Society, and the University of British Columbia (UBC). In 2024, they organized Managing Memory as You Age, a four-part workshop series that explored essential topics such as:
promoting brain health
providing compassionate care for those experiencing cognitive changes
embracing life with dementia.
common myths and misconceptions about dementia..
By creating opportunities for education and dialogue, the Building Capacity Project seeks to build a more inclusive environment where individuals with dementia and their caregivers feel empowered, understood, and supported.
